Download 2018 Headliner Announced!

Earlier this year, we lined up 5 bands that we predicted would headline Download Festival in 2018. As time passed, those bands announced tours that either ruled them out, or put them in pole position to take the coveted headline slot at the festival.

Download chief Andy Copping has now released the first headliner, and it's a big surprise! How did our predictions hold up? Here's our take on the first announcement!

Did FestivalMart predict it? Nope!

Wow. We did not see this coming. But damn are we excited to see Ozzy Osbourne's return to Donington Park, following the end of Black Sabbath. There have been reports, including quotes by the man himself, that the iconic frontman is writing new material for a 2018 release, but it remains to be seen whether this will amount to a full album of songs.

Not only that, but Ozzy is once again touring with guitarist Zakk Wylde, making the prospect even more exciting. No doubt we'll be hearing lots of classic Ozzy tracks, such as 'Bark At The Moon' and 'Crazy Train', nestled with Black Sabbath classics such as 'War Pigs' and 'Paranoid'.

I guess we probably should have had these guys in our prediction article. Their American tour ends next February, and now they've added Download to their plans for the summer of 2018. They headlined Download for the first time in 2014, so it makes sense that the festival wants a little continuity and to establish this band as UK festival headliners.

Now here's one to get excited about. A set full of rock classics awaits us, with the original Guns N' Roses line-up on stage. We can't wait to hear November Rain, Paradise City and SO much more at Donington Park next year (we're also excited because we've never seen Gn'R before!). This will be quite a spectacle!
